Black holes without pinning
In the Magneticum Simulations we do not pin the BHs to the potential minimum. This enables us for example to produce BH pairs within a cosmological simulation self-consistently. To show that our BH treatment actually works, this histogram shows the displacement of the BHs from the galaxy centre in our 909Mpc/hr run. The vertical dotted line is the softening length of the stars, the vertical dashed line is the one of dark matter and gas particles. The plot clearly shows that the simulated BHs are very well located in the galaxy centre, considering our resolution limits. This is mostly due to our dynamical friction term. Details on our BH model are described in Hirschmann et al. (2014) and Steinborn et al. (2016).
