It’s all about black holes
This figure shows a galaxy from a cosmological zoom-in simulation from Adrian Bittner. We use this simulation to test the black hole model for higher resolutions. In simulation 1 (upper panels) the central SMBH was under-massive and thus it has almost no effect on the cold gas disk. In simulation 2 (bottom panels) we increased the BH mass with the consequence that it blows out the gas of the galaxy. This clearly shows that adapting the black hole model to higher resolutions is relatively complex and that we will have to model the accretion onto black holes and the associated feedback in much more detail, for example by implementing a mechanical jet-mode feedback.
